Kurt Salmon Associates’ Private Equity Consulting Practice is looking for recent college graduates to join our growing team in the fall of 2010.

Our San Francisco-based team provides strategic, data-driven consulting services to leading private equity funds and corporate clients. For private equity clients, our services span the investment lifecycle, including strategic due diligence, strategy development and operational improvement during the portfolio ownership period and exit optimization as the investment nears its end. We have worked for seven of the top 10 private equity funds in the country and have participated in many of the recent M&A deals in the retail, consumer products and foodservice industries. We also work with leading retailers and consumer goods manufacturers on a wide range of strategic issues including growth opportunities, store productivity, marketing efficacy and competitive response. Position Overview

Successful consultants demonstrate exceptional analytical, interpersonal and creative thinking skills. They receive both formal and on-the-job training and ramp up quickly as integral members of the Strategy & Private Equity Consulting team.

Broadly, consultants analyze quantitative market, financial and consumer research data and uncover qualitative insights through interviews with industry experts and primary and secondary research. Consultants also develop analytical frameworks, financial models and conceptual tools to define and test hypotheses, outline strategic scenarios and synthesize information into meaningful conclusions.

A consultant’s primary activities in the first two years typically include:

  • Building market and financial models for evaluation of M&A targets, divestitures and investments
  • Disaggregating and analyzing drivers of company performance
  • Assessing key market and competitive dynamics
  • Translating complex analysis and modeling into concise, insightful presentations
  • Key challenges of the position include the ability to:
  • Quickly and creatively identify key insights despite data limitations
  • Thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Gather, organize and analyze large datasets
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, initiative and teamwork
Candidate Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Upcoming graduate of a top-tier school or up to two years of relevant work experience (management consulting, investment banking or private equity)
  • Abilities in the following areas: formulation and testing of hypotheses, analytical rigor, leadership and initiative, teamwork and communication and a strong desire to learn and excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in Kurt Salmon Associates and our Strategy & Private Equity Consulting Practice
  • The ability to work in the United States without any legal work restrictions
Location and Travel

This position is open in our San Francisco office. Travel is typically limited (~10%) but can be more extensive depending on the specific engagement and client needs.
